The panel “Youth Leaders-21” addressed the need to mobilize youth networks and social movements to better connect with international institutions such as the United Nations. On the basis of today’s necessity to create a greater, united voice for civil society and to foster youth participation in decision making processes, the discussion revolved around some of the difficulties that youth groups face when they develop regionally with suggestions on how to overcome obstacles.
It was stated that engaging youth should take into account the following takeaways: Focusing on the common roots, diversity of strategy for each region or geographical area, tempering youth expectations and energy, adopting creative strategies through the use of social media, creating motivational continuity by helping youth to find their role in the community.
The Youth Leadership Network suggested the creation of a platform that will help connect youth groups on the basis that many of them share the same values and interests.
